NOTHING COMPARES TO THE SIMPLE PLEASURE OF RIDING A BIKE.
This summer, I was introduced to a girl through a friend of mine.
She was awesome, adventurous and overall, badass.
We were getting to know each other, sharing stories and finding our common interests. Namely, Stephen King, the outdoors and stellar food.
One day she asked if I was doing anything the next evening. I said no. She suggested a bike ride. I said yes.
It was mid summer, so the air was warm, the sky was blue and as I recall, very few clouds in the sky. We left from her house, riding through the town until we got to the backroads where traffic was light and the evening breeze had a slight chill.
We rode up and down new trails, soaring down hills and stopping at the side when we would pass by a farm field with horses or cows. It was a total blast. No exaggeration at all, the entire evening was superb.
Nearly three hours had passed and the sky was nearly dark by the time we rode back into town, guided only by her sense of direction and yellow lamps on Main Street.
I look back on that day in the middle of summer as one of my fondest memories of the year. It was a fantastically simple evening, with good company, good roads and beautiful weather.
Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike. We didn’t plan anything out. It was a simple idea, get outside. Go on a bike ride. And that’s exactly what we did. And it was amazing.
Try it sometime, for real. Take someone with you or go alone. Fifteen minutes, half an hour even.
Just get outside. Go on a ride.
You’d be surprised just how good it feels.
